Animals in the Garbage

How do I prevent animals from tearing into my garbage bags?

On occasion Town Hall receives a complaint concerning birds or animals tearing into the garbage bags at curbside pick-up. We ask that residents police their property for the litter these intruders may cause, and we offer some suggestions that may help in warding off this nuisance.  Delaying placing the bags on the curb until 7:00 am will reduce the nighttime marauder opportunities. In addition, some citizens report that placing a small amount (1/4 cup) of ammonia inside the garbage bag will repel the predators. The ammonia minimizes food odors and makes it unappealing for the bird or animal if the bag is opened.

Appliance Disposal

Appliances such as refrigerators, washers, dryers and water heaters will be picked up by the Town for a fee of $20. The fee must be paid and the pick up scheduled at Town Hall.
