Leaf Collection

Town staff operating leaf truck

The Town of Jamestown’s annual Leaf Collection Program will begin in October and will end in February. The program provides residents with the opportunity to have loose leaves collected at roadside without the need of bagging. The program is operated on a routing system that is based on our staff completing one leaf collection route of the town in approximately 3 to 4 weeks. Once a route is completed, then staff returns to the beginning of the same planned route and begins again.

Truck for loose leaf collectionTo participate in the Leaf Collection Program simply:

  • Place loose leaves at the edge of your yard. Leaves must not be placed in the street as they will clog storm drains during rain events.
  • Remove sticks, rocks, and other debris which can damage the Town’s equipment. If staff encounters debris in the leaf pile, they will discontinue collection at the property.
  • Do not park vehicles near your leaves. Town Staff will not risk damaging equipment to collect leaves near private vehicles.

The leaf collection program helps keep leaves from blocking storm drains and prevents decaying leaves from polluting lakes and streams.

In addition to the collection program, residents are encouraged to recycle their leaves by composting or shredding them and using them as fertilizer for lawns and gardens. You can also use leaves as mulch to protect plants and shrubs. For more information on mulching or composting leaves, call the Guilford County Cooperative Extension Service at 336.375.5876.

Jamestown residents can also use the Town’s year-round yard waste collection service. Simply put your leaves in clear plastic bags and set them at the curb on Wednesdays.

The leaf collection route may change or be delayed due to inclement weather; it does not service private streets.

If you are interested in receiving collected leaves, contact Town Hall at 336.454.1138. In order to receive leaves, you must:

         - have a clear dump site for the leaves
         - have clear access for the leaf truck
         - be able to receive 25 cubic yards (approximately 3 to 4 tons) of wet or dry leaves
         - understand the leaf loads may have contaminants
         - accept the loads at no charge
